  • Heritage is a meeting place and place to learn. Heritage is the the place where people from different backgrounds and from different generations discover a common past, which unites them in the present and projected them into a future settled in our cultural tradition.

Heritage a place for children and culture

Heritage is the transmission belt of our essence, of our identity, the mirror where we see ourselves reflected, the connection to who we are as a result of the passing of time, in which people and events have built our reality current. We must, therefore, to know, to recreate, to enrich, and to share our heritage.

The cultural programme "Emilianensis. Discover the monasteries of La Rioja", contributes to o disseminate the cultural heritage, tangible and intangible, located around the the monasteries of Suso and Yuso, in San Millán de la Cogolla. Thousands of children, young people and adults, locals and foreigners, have learned about ways of life and trades already forgotten, transmitted from generation to generation to build the commun European Cultural Heritage.

  • 2018 is the tenth birthday of the heritage walk about the stories of the industrial reconversion of the Giudecca island. This heritage walk is about the stories of the past and present workers, the inhabitants, the factories, the conflicts and the daily life of this island, which was one of the most important places of industry in Italy. It’s also about the post-industrial process of reconversion, its successes, its expectations and its failures, representing interesting alternatives for the future of Venice. It’s about strangely invisible stories, peoples and places. It is a heritage walk for Venetians, young students, local institutions, activists, universities and schools.

When I arrived in Venice 10 years ago from Marseilles, I was surprise by the strong presence of a high diversity of stories, places and peoples. But in Venice, the narrative of the “Most Serene Republic of Venice” prevails over the industrial one and contemporary one despite the fact that the latter's activities and architectural presence are so highly visible, making it difficult to imagine a future beyond this narrative.

The venetians translate the Faro Convention in Italian, still organized heritage walks and promote the application of the Faro Convention despite the total disinterest of the mayor. This image is about so visible places, peoples and stories without right, value and voice.

  • Sharing moments and building collective memories. This is what cultural heritage can do.

Trying to keep together the sense of belonging and the spirit of a community is one of the challenges in a world where the intergenerational exchange is getting weak and losing its importance. In Fontecchio we aim to bring together the community and propose convivial events that can become new traditions.

On February 23rd we joined a national initiative to reduce electric energy consumption inviting all the community to a candlelight dinner in the watch tower, one of the iconic monument of the village. It was meant to raise awareness on sustainable energy and strengthen the sense of belonging. Everybody was asked to bring something to share; there were children, adults, locals, and friends coming from other villages. For some of them, it was the first time entering the watch tower to see the photo collection in the “Spazio della Memoria”; we experienced the community museum and commented the photos, had idea for forthcoming collective moments and strengthened the sense of belonging.

So, the Spazio della Memoria - dedicated to the city of L’Aquila as it was before and after the earthquake - became the place to build new positive memories and generate dialogues on art, projects, and the future. Cultural tangible and intangible heritage can be sometimes the opportunity to look with different eyes, to have an immersive experience into beauty and be inspired by it. If - as Dostoevsky stated - beauty will save the world, cultural heritage will be the engine of this process.

Our stories, our places, and our people experienced a great, collective moment where past, present and future were harmoniously melt together and will be linked to our cultural memory.

Cosa pensi e senti è il patrimonio culturale?

Condividere momenti e costruire ricordi collettivi.
